Our Community

We aim to support our members and the Wimmera Mallee community by joining in sharing information to assist individuals engage with development projects coming into the region. It is important to understand all the impacts that these projects may have on individuals, businesses and our community and understand the cumulative effects of the development planned. Community need to engage and provide formal submissions to guide the impact wherever possible.

We encourage you to become involved in the planning process of developments by sharing your suggestions, concerns and local knowledge to ensure a wide range of feedback is received and the best outcomes are achieved for Community.

Listed below are some of the groups in the region which are advocating and engaging with Developers and Government. Communities that are informed, consulted, and empowered are best able to respond when consultation periods begin under statutory planning process.

SWRRA | Southern Wimmera Renewables Research Association - The objective of SWRRA is to represent the over 100 members who believe the proponent of the Campbells Bridge Wind Farm, RWE, has selected an entirely inappropriate site. The proposed Campbells Bridge wind facility consists of approximately 145 turbines at a height of 280m, spanning from Rupanyup South to Glenorchy, accompanied by transmission lines and a potential battery storage system.

Wimmera Mallee Environmental & Agricultural Protection Association - Addressing community concerns related to Warracknabeal Energy Park & Wilkur Energy Park. Sub-committees have been formed to support the communities of Curyo & Pyramid Hill. WMEAP is currently focussed on transmission, wind, solar, BESS and mineral sands mining projects impacting Victoria.

Wallaloo and Gre Gre District Alliance - Supporting Farming Communities with the impact of Transmission Lines, particularly VNI-West.

Mine Free Mallee Farms Inc (MFMF) is a dedicated community group who are passionate about protecting their prime agricultural cropping country, their health, homes and lifestyle from mining. VHM Limited is proposing to develop the Goschen Rare Earths and Mineral Sands Project about 35km south of Swan Hill in the Gannawarra Shire Council and intends to mine and process heavy mineral sands and rare earth minerals. Our aim is to provide the best available information highlighting the current and future potential serious impacts of Mineral Sands mining in our area. #MFMF

Across Victoria Alliance is a grassroots coalition of farmers, landowners, regional communities, metro residents and business owners, united by a shared commitment to protect the rights and livelihoods of all Victorians — no matter where they live or work. WMEAP are a member of the alliance.

Farms For Food - Empowering Rural Communities Through Education and Advocacy. A community group from the heart of the Victorian Wheatbelt that has banded together and volunteered time to help people in other communities make informed choices. #farmsforfood

Firefighters Against Renewables Over Victoria - FAROV - We are a collective of 5 Fire Brigades situated under the proposed VNI West 500kV Transmission Lines and in a proposed Renewable Energy zone as part of the Victorian State Government’s mission to cover our food bowl and countryside in renewable infrastructure. We have received commitments from a further 19 impacted Brigades and looking to add the support of many more either in joining our proposed action or taking their own variation of action.

No Navarre Wind Factory - Save Our Biodiversity Paradise - Navarre Green Power Hub is an environmental disaster.

Dunmunkle Land Protection Group Inc - Formed in response to mineral sands mining activity in the Dunmunkle and Wimmera areas. The group aims to promote and support sustainable environments in our regions for agriculture production, with the overall purpose of food security for the Australian Community. #DLPG #foodnotsand
